Explore Calgary

Collaborating with Tourism Calgary and Calgary Economic Development was truly enriching. Spanning from the 2013 Calgary Flood to engaging with diverse entrepreneurs, my time there was invaluable. The showcased work originates from my tenure at Venture Communications.

Campaign: Calgary, our doors are open

Agency: Venture Communications
Role:
Creative Director

Overall, our efforts to promote the city of Calgary during the aftermath of the 2013 flood were successful in not only attracting visitors, but also in boosting the morale of the local community. By focusing on the resilience of the city and its people, and by promoting the many activities and attractions that were still available, we were able to turn a difficult situation into an opportunity for growth and renewal. The work we did in the aftermath of the 2013 flood serves as a testament to the power of effective communication in times of crisis.

Case Study video

Working with local photographers and videographers we created an integrated campaign that welcomed travellers with ads that showcased employees from Calgary’s attractions, entertainment and restaurant industries. In realtime the campaign showed that Calgary was open for business.

Our campaign was a resounding success, quickly climbing the YouTube Leaderboard and earning numerous awards. Most importantly, it helped drive summer hotel occupancy to almost 80%, far surpassing the pre-flood goal for 2013. As a result, many Calgary attractions had their best year on record. The campaign's effectiveness in promoting the city and boosting tourism during a time of crisis demonstrates the power of creative and strategic communication.

Campaign: #loveYYC

Agency: Venture Communications
Role:
Creative Director

To celebrate Calgary's recovery and resilience after the devastating flood, we collaborated with local filmmakers to produce three videos that captured the city's spirit. These videos featured an instrumental of clapping hands and no words, and focused on scenes of togetherness and community. We shared these videos on social media and played them at sporting events, using them as a way to speak to and unite the people of Calgary. Through this campaign, we aimed to celebrate the city's strength and resilience in the face of adversity.
